about Maura

I began my career as a Social Care Worker, supporting young people in residential and aftercare services for over 20 years. During that time, I saw how many people missed out on the benefits of wellness practices—not because they weren’t interested, but because most services lacked the therapeutic skills needed to truly support them. That gap is what first inspired me to create Luam Wellness: a space where wellness could be made genuinely accessible, inclusive, and sensitive to individual needs.

But there was another reason too. I saw how the constant pace of life was affecting so many—especially women and professionals in health, education, and social care. There was a real need for somewhere people could slow down, take a breath, and focus on their own wellbeing.

Alongside my degree in Social Care and Master’s in Social Research, I have undertaken a wide range of training and hold qualifications in yoga, massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, meditation, and breathwork. I also lecture on Trauma-Informed Care at University College Cork.

Through Luam Wellness, I now offer yoga classes, mindfulness, breathwork, bodywork (massage /reflexology/aromatherapy)—working with individuals from all walks of life, including those with more complex needs and the professionals who support them. My work includes classes, personalised sessions, wellness workshops, and retreats.

At the heart of Luam Wellness is a gentle, trauma-informed approach that honours each person’s unique journey.
